A Topponcino is a thin mat-like mattress that provides a newborn with a sense of security when being passed from one person to another or when being placed onto his bed when he falls asleep in arms. It has been used for generations to give babies a little heaven of coziness. There are many uses - here you have the four main ones:

✴ It's a heaven of coziness for your newborn baby. Maintains a consistent temperature, smell and texture so your baby will feel safe in any environment (like a "lovie").

✴ Supportsyour baby when being held by those less experienced. Physically supports your baby when feeding or when being held by those less experienced with handling a newborn. 

✴ It has a familiar smell (like Mama & Papa) so your baby will feel safe in any environment.

✴ Eases transitions such as being passed from person-to-person, or when being laid down to sleep. 

How to prepare (and care for) your Topponcino

Our Topponcinos are hand-made in Auckland, New Zealand. They are made of 100% cotton, and thus require a little bit of love and attention, or they may shrink and/or pill.

PREPARING YOUR NEW TOPPONCINO

To properly prepare the topponcino and to create the easiest transition for your baby, it is highly recommended that, before your baby is born, you:

✴ Wash the topponcino with your own clothes and detergents (gentle/delicate wash): by adding it to a load of your clothes, you will begin the acclimation process, allowing the topponcino to absorb your family's unique smells. It is best if you use the same exact soaps you plan on using after your baby is born so they will associate with that as well.

✴ Sleep with the topponcino in your bed for few days: this will allow the topponcino to absorb your smell of you and comfort your newborn baby with the familiar scent. 

WASHING YOUR TOPPONCINO

The internal batting is 100% cotton and is designed to trap heat and smells. It can bunch up if washed in a machine. Spot clean by hand as needed with a damp white washcloth. Lay flat to dry.

If a deep clean is necessary (accidents happen!) you can machine wash it (gentle program), but please note a slight shrinkage may take place resulting in a wrinkled look. It will still be very functional, and some parents actually prefer it, but just something to be aware of. 

Deep Cleaning: Machine wash cold with like colors (gentle or delicates program).

Drying: Air dry on a flat rack or on a thick bed of towels. Once nearly dry, lay your topponcino outside on a sunny day for freshness.

Highly recommended, beautiful topponcinos made with natural and soft materials for babies. We've been given a Topponcino as a present for my baby girl and we've used it the first 3 months in the bassinet and now, that she is a little bit bigger, we use it to put her on the floor for tummy time or sometimes on the pram so she is more comfortable. It is very soft and useful and it has multiple uses, it really worth the money!
